How To Start Planning Your Wedding and Avoid Being Overwhelmed

December 19, 2021

Congratulations! You’re engaged!!

Now that you have told your closest friends and family, it is likely that the questions have started, potentially initiating some anxiety.

When do you want your wedding to be?

What colors do you want?

Have you picked your wedding party?

Just to name a few.

The beginning of your engagement is such an exciting time, but these questions from excited friends and family can really set wedding anxiety in motion.

Take a breath, you do not have to know any of these things right away and we have a couple of tips on how to get started planning your wedding without getting overwhelmed.

The first thing you’ll want to discuss is your budget. Get an idea of what you are comfortable with spending on your wedding and make a list of the aspects that are most important to you. Deciding what you will be spending and the areas you want to save and splurge on will give you a great road map and set the tone for the whole wedding planning process.

Next, ask yourself and your fiancé some questions.

What time of year do you want to get married?

How do you picture your day? What do you want your guests to experience?

Are you and your fiancé more laid back and want a small ceremony? Do you have a huge family who loves to have a good time?

Really take a moment and paint the picture of you and your fiancés perfect day and use it as an outline for your planning process. Once you have an idea of your day and what means the most to you and your fiancé, it’s time to get started!

First, you’ll want to narrow down a date and your venue. Don’t get too attached to a specific day because that’s going to depend on what the venues you are looking at have available. It is best to start with a timeframe within the particular time of year you want to get married in and start touring venues!

Once you find your venue and have your wedding date, it is important to just tackle one task at a time. Research and hire each vendor one at a time. Don’t feel like you have to hire your vendors all in one day, and really take your time and get to know each vendor you hire. Building the vendor dream team is the key to a successful/stress-free wedding!

Being engaged is supposed to be FUN! Obviously, a little stress is unavoidable. Don’t let anyone pressure you or make you feel like you have to do it their way because ultimately, it is YOUR wedding. The two most important opinions are you and your fiancé.

I also feel it’s important to note that just because you get engaged, doesn’t mean you have to start planning right away. Take a minute and enjoy being engaged!

I hope that this guide was helpful to you as you plan your first, or next, styled shoot! The planning process can be complex but the end results will be totally worth it!
