After investing countless hours into wedding planning, you want to document all the little details of your big day coming to fruition. Choosing a wedding photographer can seem daunting so I hope this guide will help you find the perfect photographer to capture your special day.
- Style
Before inquiring with a photographer, it’s important to know what style of photography you are wanting. Take a look at their portfolio and recent work to see if their style is what you are envisioning for your big day. Every wedding photographer has their own style and you want their unique flair to complement and represent who you and your significant other are as a couple!
2. Availability
One of the first questions you need to ask your potential photographer is whether or not your date is available. Keep in mind, most wedding photographers book dates months in advance so start inquiring early! If your date happens to be available, be sure to ask how far in advance you need to book in order to secure your date.
3. Prices & Packages
Before booking your photographer, talk through their prices and what each package they offer includes.
A few questions to ask:
- What is included in each package?
- Do you include engagement sessions or other pre-wedding events in your packages?
- How many hours are included in each package?
- Do you charge a travel fee?
- What is your refund/cancellation policy?
- Do you require a deposit?
- How many edited photos will we receive and when will our full wedding gallery be delivered?
Honestly, the list goes on! These are all important questions to cover with your potential photographer prior to booking them. Remember, you get what you pay for and the investment is SO WORTH IT.
4. Backup Plans
What if it rains? At the end of the day, there are some things that are just out of our control. Be sure to discuss backup plans with your photographer during the many conversations leading up to your big day. Keep in mind that rain on your wedding day is said to be GOOD LUCK! If you plan to get married outdoors, be sure to talk through alternative indoor spaces for photos ahead of time. It’s important to ensure your potential photographer has experience shooting when in all kinds of conditions!
5. What If They Are Unable to Attend?
Photographers are humans too, and just like you can’t control the weather on your big day, sometimes the unexpected happens. It’s inevitable. Whether your photographer gets sick, has a major life event, etc. it’s crucial to have a Plan B in place in case something comes up. In the event that they are unable to make it, your photographer should have contacts they can reach out to and hire to cover them.
If you’re needing a wedding photographer that will “get you”, you are in the right place!
